The conception and design of large public infrastructures and civil engineering structures naturally led Setec TPI to create a department devoted to the design and control of the technical equipments they also need. This department also focuses on the security and safety of people and equipments.
Like in the field of Civil Engineering, this department provides high technical level services, and it gathers teams of engineers and experts in equipments, such as :
Besides, in order to meet safety standards, the department « Equipments and Safety » at Setec TPI has a number of engineers and experts specialized in safety of road or railroad infrastructures, such as tunnels.
- electromechanical equipments : pumpage, ventilation, air conditioning, material handling.
- electrical equipments : electricity and communication networks, lighting.
- electronical equipments : centralized technical management, regulation, access check points.
- railroad equipments.
This department can work either on specific equipments projects, or on projects dealing with both Civil Engineering and equipments. The integration of the department among other departments at Setec TPI ensures the client to get a full and coordinated service, as well as the integration of equipments issues from the very beginning of an infrastructure project.
The multidisplinary teams gathered at Setec TPI work on a great variety of projects : transportation systems (road and railroad tunnels, highways, subways…), industrial equipments as well as hydraulic equipments (pumpage centers and sanitation equipments, dams…).
Throughout the years, Setec TPI developped its own innovative softwares, solving problems of transient flows in compressible fluids networks for tunnel pollution, or calculating the behavior of fire propagation in underground structures (EXPRESS AIR, CAMATT, TEMP’AIT). Other softwares deal with dilution at ends of tunnels (PANACHE) or the thermodynamic behavior of tunnels (THERMO).
In addition to that, the department « Equipments and Safety » uses a specific software to numerically simulate emergency evacuation of people in large structures (tunnels, train stations, buildings). This software was developed by The University Of Greenwich (EXODUS) and is designed to carry out specific studies on people safety.
Finally, the department uses another numerical simultion software (CFD 3D) to study aerodynamic and thermodynamic phenomena in underground structures (FLUENT).
